Wolfenstein: The Old Blood New Info and Gameplay from PAX East

During GDC 2015 earlier this week Bethesda and Swedish developer MachineGames announced a standalone prequel to last years very successful and critically acclaimed "old-school" shooter, Wolfenstein: The New Order. The standalone prequel named Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, will launch on May 5th and will set you back 20$.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood looks like it will be heaps of fun

Now we have seen some fresh and new exciting gameplay from PAX East that looks extremely fun. They played Chapter 3 of The first part of the game 'Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves'. They showed of some of the new climbing mechanics that have been introduced via the addition of a Pipe, that works as both a tool and a melee-weapon. And they ended by trying to Escape from the Castle. The game itself seemed a bit more unforgiving than the previous title, requiring you to usually take out the enemies that can call in reinforcements before engaging in an open firefight.

"The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the Allies’ favour, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria. Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood—Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves—pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. In part two—The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs—our hero's search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artefacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power."

As I wrote in the announcement post, I'm really looking forward to this, Wolfenstein: The New Order was one of my favorite games from last year since it felt so "old-school" and showed everyone that shooters like that still can do very for well for themselves on the current saturated gaming market. And it took home a variety of gaming awards during 2014.

"We decided that we didn't want to go with the normal DLC approach and rather opted for making a longer Standalone experience, we wanted to ensure that we had a lower-priced entry-level title to Wolfenstein, which didn't require you to play the previous titles"

For those that missed the gameplay (if a video does not show up before then) they can watch it tomorrow over at the PAX East Twitch stream at 10:30am EST / 7:30am PST.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will be out  May 5th 2015 digitally and in boxed form for PC and PlayStation 4, and digital only for Xbox One, priced 20$ There's no mention of PS3 and Xbox 360. You don't need to own Wolfenstein: The New Order to play.
