The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Geralt’s Beard Grows as you Play

Archie Paras

German magazine Gamestar shared some information about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which we have previously covered, here and here.

One of the most interesting details shared was that Geralt's beard will grow over time.

Eurogamer asked CD Projekt's communications chief, Michał Platkow-Gilewski, for more detail, for which he clarified:

The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations. The beard has several "states" and these states determine its length - the longest is really long but it's not Gandalf-long.

Geralt's beard growth stops when you apply Witcher 3's free Beard and Hairstyle DLC, as Michał Platkow-Gilewski explains:

When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time.

The Witcher 3 supports Nvidia Hairworks, will that stop the beard from growing when applied?

What is worth knowing though is whether the free Hairstyle DLC pertains to Nvidia Hairworks. If that is the case, it's a shame that the growth has to stop in order to get the more advanced hair tech. I would assume though that regardless of the length it will look better and far more realistic.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  is due out 19th May 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We will bring you any new information, as soon as it becomes available.
