Verizon Droid Update Delayed Indefinitely?

Omer Saleem

The much awaited Android 2.1 upgrade of Motorola Droid on Verizon has been delayed. The news leaked out when an employee saw it on the company's Intranet. It said “The 3/18 OTA software update will not happen as planned. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible.”

Now after hearing this, the customers went crazy on the social media circles for which Verizon had to send out a message to all its customers saying:

The Android 2.1 upgrade for the Droid by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected the broader phased rollout to all Droid by Motorola users will take place, but not just yet. No date scheduled yet.

The problem reported by Android and Me is that Verizon is still working on the infrastructure to deliver the Over The Air (OTA) upgrade to all the Verizon Droid users. On the other hand, the schedule has not yet been finalized as well because Verizon still does not know the actual completion dates.

Samsung has already made the Android 2.1 upgrade available to its Galaxy Spica therefore it is now very important for Verizon to make the move and be on the lead in time or it will have way too many angry customers on its hands. Maybe it is also time for Motorola to move its own behind and come out of the shades of empty promises and missed time-lines to its phones users.
