MediaTek's been in the news over the past couple of days for its uniquely designed deca core MT6797 SoC. The MT6797 comes with two sets of four Cortex A53 cores and one set of two Cortex A72, in an attempt to divide performance usage and consumption into three sets. While impressive in terms of the sheer number of cores present, how well will the MT6797 be able to account for power consumption and efficiency still remains to be seen. Well, looks like Qualcomm doesn't want to be left out of the loop when it comes to the most amount of cores on a CPU, as details of its very own deca cored processor have leaked today.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 818 Leaks With Its Own big.Medium.LITTLE Architecture
While Qualcomm might be launching the Snapdragon 820 later with its custom Kryo cores, the company doesn't seem to be fully ready to decrease its reliance on ARM's core design for the time being. Some information that appears to belong to a Qualcomm SoC with a deca core design has leaked today, which shows a similar configuration to MediaTek's MT6797. The Snapdragon 818, according to today's information will be coming with four low powered Cortex A53 cores, clocked at 1.2 GHz, two medium powered A53s with frequencies of 1.6 GHz and four more Cortex A72 cores with 2.0 GHz frequency.
While MediaTek chose to use two A72 cores on its MT6797, Qualcomm seems to be aiming for more high power performance with its choice of the A72. Other details about the processor with respect to video support, RAM type, camera support are unknown as of now. And while Qualcomm has confirmed the Snapdragon 820, there has been no official word from the manufacturer about the 818.
