Ratchet & Clank – Development of the PS4 “Re-imagining” is 100% Done

A source close to BGU, a representative of Australian retailer EB Games who attended E3, has confirmed that while at the June event, the topic of the game’s development timeline was brought up, where those Playstation and Insomniac employees manning the game declared that the game was 100% complete.

Although, as it has previously been reported, Insomniac Games and Sony plan to release the game alongside the film in Spring 2016 in order to reinvigorate the franchise. The film will be released by Focus Features in the United States on April 29, 2016.

Insomniac Games have released the first trailer for the upcoming Ratchet & Clank "re-imagining", set to launch alongside the movie in 2016. The trailer, which can be watched below, features some jaw dropping gameplay footage.

The developers state that they started thinking of Ratchet & Clank as a “re-imagining” of the 2002 original, revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story as seen in the film. They envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 titles while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games.

The new game ended up with elements based on the original, but at the same time updated with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all new Clank gameplay, boss fights, new flight sequences and more. All at the same time constructed to take advantage of the PS4's graphical prowess.

The arsenal is changed quite a bit as well, with the majority of the weapons being completely new, but with fan-favourite tools of destruction from the Ratchet & Clank Future series filling out Ratchet’s kit. From the brand new Pixelizer (which transforms enemies into explosive 8-bit pixels) to franchise favourites like the dance-party-inducing Groovitron and wise-cracking robotic bodyguard Mr. Zurkon, Ratchet & Clank’s arsenal has never been better.

When we were asked recently to come up for a special bonus for fans that support Ratchet & Clank (PS4) by pre-ordering it, we went back to the list of our favourite weapons that we hadn’t yet brought to the game. In the end, it was a no-brainer, and I’m ecstatic to say that when you pre-order the game, you’ll get access to one of my all-time favourite weapons from Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked & Loaded – The Bouncer. The Bouncer launches a bomb that releases a plethora of tiny homing bombs that bounce towards targets. One of the most effective and spectacular Ratchet & Clank weapons ever.

Ratchet & Clank will be priced at $39.99 but is said to be way bigger than Into the Nexus, a ten to twelve hours experience plus upgrades / trophies etc.

Check out all new footage of Gaspar. An original Ratchet & Clank location, but now rebuilt for the new game. Including a new main path and an all-new jetpack gameplay.

Previous Ratchet and Clank games always ran at 60 fps. Into the Nexus was the first game in the series to run at 30 fps. James Stevenson, Community Lead at Insomniac Games, explains that they are using 30fps for the new game as well in order to attain CG quality visuals.

We’re 1080p/30fps… our goal was to match or exceed the fidelity of CG animated movies. When we first started we realized that was actually possible with PS4. Pretty exciting.

Ratchet & Clank will launch for PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016 alongside the animated film of the same name. The film will be released by Focus Features in the United States on April 29, 2016.
