Star Wars Battlefront Gets Beautiful New Sceenshot, Details on Drop Zone Mode

EA and DICE have released a new screenshot for Star Wars Battlefront. Battlefront's open beta will be coming in October, offering three modes; Walker Assault, Survival Mission and Drop Zone. You can view the new screenshot below with some details on the Drop Zone mode further down.

Star Wars Battlefront's Drop Zone Mode centers on capturing drop pods falling on the planet surfaces

Drop Zone centers on drop pods falling on the planet surfaces, in 8-versus-8 matches, where Rebel and Empire teams fight to capture and control these pods, in similar fashion to “King of the Hill”. Locating a pod triggers a short claim process, and a team wins either after capturing five pods, or the majority after the 10-minute match is up.

Drop Zone requires quick thinking, encouraging players to always be on their feet. Captured pods need to be defended, although static players staying close to their pod are always vulnerable to be hit by explosives or Orbital Strikes.

“This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront,” Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall explains. “We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn't really pay off.”

Every map in Star Wars Battlefront is meticulously designed to offer the best multiplayer experience

The team at DICE has put a ton of work on map design, fine tuning key locations, making matches as entertaining as possible no matter whether you'll be playing Drop Zone on sandy Tatooine, snowy Hoth, on the lava surface of Sollust or in the forests of Endor.

“Playing Drop Zone on the Swamp Crash Site on Endor is a personal favorite. The map has a couple of nice choke points but is overall very free-flowing and hectic, as enemies can attack from anywhere on that level,” says Brännvall. “The fight takes place around a crashed GR-75 transport ship with containers from the craft strewn across the landscape, and there’s one section with a waterfall overlooked by an Ewok village, where you have to jump down into the pool below in order to claim the pod, hoping no one’s hiding in the trees above waiting to pick you off.”

Star Wars Battlefront will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 19, 2015. We will bring you any new information on Star Wars Battlefront as soon as it becomes available.
