Xbox One Outsells PS4 In October; Halo 5 Top Selling Game, 81% Growth Year-Over-Year

According to NPD, Microsoft’s Xbox One outsold Sony’s PS4 in October. Halo 5: Guardians was the top selling game – beating multi-platform titles.

According to the NPD estimates, console sales grew 3 % in the US year-over-year. Current-gen console sales are up by 12%, while last-gen sales are down 66%.

Following the results, Microsoft offered a PR statement, stating that Xbox One sales grew 81% year-over-year, with their Xbox One being the top selling console for October.

The strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history drove record Xbox Live usage for October and made Xbox One the best-selling console in the U.S. with 81 percent growth compared to October 2014," said Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols in a statement provided to VentureBeat. "We saw amazing fan excitement, commercial success and critical acclaim in October for ‘Halo 5: Guardians,’ which was the best-selling game in the US."

Microsoft’s console has now outsold the PS4 two twice this year. The Xbox One also outsold the PS4 back in April. Interestingly enough, Halo 5: Guardians managed to beat several multi-platform titles, including Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
