iOS 9.2.1 Significantly Improves Performance On Older iPhones – Video

Apple pushed out iOS 9.2.1 download a couple of days back without much fanfare. While the update's changelog suggests that the download is no more than a bug fix and security patching release, but interestingly, iOS 9.2.1 gives older iPhone models, more specifically the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 a nice speed boost, giving users a good reason to upgrade straight away.

Update To iOS 9.2.1 If You Want To Give Your Older iPhone A Performance Boost

According to a newly published video on YouTube, courtesy iAppleBytes, iOS 9.2.1 update gives older iPhone models a hefty speed boost, bringing them on par with performance of iOS 8.4.1, which was released last year.

Check out the video for yourself down below and you be the judge as well whether or not iOS 9.2.1 is a worthy download or not.

If you have an older iPhone at hand, then we highly recommend that you update to iOS 9.2.1 right away to squash all performance related issues in one go. We suggest that you restore your iPhone from the ground up (clean install using iTunes) in order to get the maximum effect from the update itself. Also keep in mind that a clean install will erase everything off your iPhone, so be sure to make a backup of everything before proceeding with an iTunes restore.

It's highly likely that iOS 9.2.1 performance related credentials are a result of the company being faced with a lawsuit suggesting that Cupertino is intentionally crippling its older smartphone so that users upgrade to newer hardware. If that indeed is the case, then hats off to the community for not caving into Apple's way of iOS updates.

Given how old the iPhone 4s is specifically, it's likely that the smartphone has reached the end of its lifeline, and it's highly likely that it won't receive updates once iOS 10 is released later this year. We could be wrong here, but Apple will one day or the other retire the iPhone 4s from receiving software updates, and it's likely going to happen this year, if not the next one.

We'll know for sure when Cupertino takes to the stage at WWDC 2016 in June to reveal its plans for the future regarding its mobile and desktop software. But till then, we recommend users to upgrade to iOS 9.2.1, especially if they have older iPhones at hand. Even if you have an iPad or and iPod touch, do not hesitate to jump onboard the latest update bandwagon.
