Intel has launched their latest Celeron processors based on the Skylake microarchitecture. The low cost chips aim to provide decent performance for entry level builds, office PCs and HTPCs. The Celeron family will be part of the desktop lineup and will include three chips, the Celeron G3900, Celeron G3920 and the Celeron G3900T.

Intel Launches Low Cost, Skylake Based Celeron Processors

After launching several high-end Skylake chips in the mainstream lineup on both desktop and mobility fronts, Intel is now planning to release a range of low-cost, entry level chips in the market. These include their Core i3, Pentium and Celeron chips which were announced a couple of weeks ago and would now be available in the market for purchase. The new chips include three models which are already mentioned above so we are going to take a closer look at the specifications of the low cost processors.

All three chips were announced back in October 2015 but Intel didn't launch them until now. The lineup has the Celeron G3900 as the base model which is a dual core clocked at 2.9 GHz that comes with 2 MB of L3 cache, 51 W TDP and an Intel HD Graphics 510 iGPU. The Celeron G3920 is also similar in specifications but comes with a faster clock speed of 2.9 GHz. The Celeron G3900T is also a dual core model with 2 MB of L2 cache and the HD Graphics 510 chip however comes with a 2.6 GHz clock speed. The benefit of this processor is that it has a TDP of just 35W. Both the Celeron G3900 and G3920 have a price of $42 US while the Celeron G3900T has a selling price of $52 US. All three chips are compatible with the LGA 1151 socket and support either DDR4-1866 MHz or DDR3L-1600 MHz memory.

Intel would also be releasing their previously announced P-Series processors in the market. The lineup includes the Core i5-6402P which is a quad core processor (No Hyperthreading Support), featuring a base clock of 2.8 GHz and frequency boost of 3.4 GHz. The chip comes with 6 MB of L3 cache and has a TDP of 65W. Previously, Intel processors that came with the “P” suffix didn’t feature any integrated graphics processor. This Core i5, how ever, does come with a iGPU. The graphics side is powered by a HD Graphics 510 chip that is clocked at 950 MHz .

The second processor in the lineup is the Core i3-6098P which is a dual core chip with hyper threading turned on. This processor comes with a base clock of 3.6 GHz but doesn’t has any boost clock. The processor has a TDP of 54W and comes with 3 MB of L3 cache. The chip also integrated an HD Graphics 510 chip that is clocked at a higher frequency of 1050 MHz. Both processors come with DDR4/DDR3L memory support (2133/1600 MHz) and are compatible with existing LGA 1151 motherboards. The Core i3-6098P will retail at a price of $107 US while the Core i5-6402P will retail at a price of $182 US. While both chips aren’t unlocked to support overclock, motherboard makers have released new BIOS updates that allow overclocking of non-Unlocked Skylake CPUs on their motherboards which makes the entry level Core i3 processors a really good deal. Both processors will be launched on 29th January.
