When it comes to the processors of 2016, all anyone can talk about are the Snapdragon 820 and the Exynos 8890. Both the chipsets have been detailed officially by Qualcomm and Samsung and should be expected to set this year's pace in mobile performance after they've become publicly available. Both of them are also expected to make it on board the Samsung Galaxy S7 and looks like the Korean manufacturer has some plans to balance out their performance on its mobile flagship this year.
Samsung To Tweak The Exynos 8890 In Order To Ensure Galaxy S7 Provides Uniform Experience
With smartphones growing increasingly complex over the course of time, the same lineup of devices using different processors for different variants has started to become an increasing norm. For Samsung, this has been the case for quite a while, save 2015 which saw the Korean manufacturer skip over the Snapdragon 810 in the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
This year however, we're expecting the Galaxy S flagship smartphone lineup to once again feature processors from both Qualcomm and Samsung, so things are getting back to normal as far as Samsung is concerned. That being said, while the Exynos 8890 and the Snapdragon 820 should both perform better than the rest of mobile processors out there, discrepancies will still exist given their different designs.
Word out of the rumor mill is now suggesting that Samsung's got plans to tweak the Exynos 8890 so that the variants that ship with its own chipset and the ones that ship with Qualcomm's SoC do not show any major discrepancies on board. According to sources in China, Samsung is looking to adjust the Exynos 8890 so that it is on par with the Snapdragon 820 in single core results.
In multi core however, the Exynos should be expected to dominate given its architecture and this is expected by the company to neutralize the Adreno 530's GPU performance, which should significantly exceed that of the Exynos 8890. Of course, until we get to test the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge for ourselves, nothing can be said of sure but today's source has been known to provide reliable information in the past as well.
