iOS 93 main

Apple released a new firmware version for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users today - iOS 9.3 - and you managed to update to it somehow although you didn't want to in the first place. Don't panic yet, as Apple is still signing iOS 9.2.1 firmware file for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users, meaning that you have a small window of opportunity that you can realize and downgrade your device from iOS 9.3.

The reason for downgrade can be anything at all, and rather than discussing those immediately, we'll jump into the iOS 9.3 to iOS 9.2.1 downgrade process first, something that is fairly simple to follow.

iOS 9.3 To iOS 9.2.1 - Step-By-Step Downgrade Guide For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Users

1. First and foremost download the iOS 9.2.1 firmware file for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch from here. Make sure that you download the correct file otherwise the downgrade process won't even take place.

2. With the iOS 9.2.1 firmware file sitting on your PC or Mac, launch iTunes (download link if you haven't downloaded and installed it already.)

3. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your PC or Mac using the supplied USB cable.

4. You'll see your device pop up on the top left hand corner of iTunes, so click on it.

5. While holding down the left 'Shift' key on your PC keyboard, or the left 'Option' key on your Mac's keyboard, click on the 'Restore iPhone' button.

6. Select the iOS 9.2.1 IPSW firmware file you downloaded in step 1.

At this point, the downgrade process will start to begin, verifying the iOS 9.2.1 firmware file with Apple being the first step. Everything is automated so you don't have to worry about anything at all. Despite that being said, do not touch your device during the downgrade process as you want everything to go as smoothly as possible.

Once the downgrade process is complete you'll boot straight into the setup screen of iOS 9.2.1. Simply enter your Apple ID credentials, connect to WiFi and get along with your usual business.

You might want to stay on iOS 9.2.1 for a couple of reasons, but we'll point out just one right here - iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak. And if reports flying around the Web are anything to go by then it's quite possible that we'll see a release some time soon. Just because of that, we'll suggest staying on iOS 9.2.1 and refrain from upgrading to iOS 9.3. If you're not bothered by jailbreaking at all, then update away.
