Here's how you can update the Apple TV 4 Siri Remote firmware in a few easy to understand steps.

Apple TV

The Apple TV remote had seen no hardware update for an extended period of time, and Apple broke away from its longstanding tradition and brought something new to the table in the form of Siri Remote, with the release of Apple TV 4.

The Siri Remote itself is a work of marvel and packs a lot of sensors under the hood to offer a smooth user experience in return during day to day usage. And like any other great hardware, nothing runs by magic, and the Siri Remote is controlled by a firmware under the hood. Interestingly though, you'll be surprised to learn that you can actually update that firmware in a few easy steps. In today's guide we'll show you how it's done.

Update Apple TV 4 Siri Remote Firmware In A Few Easy Steps

Be sure to completely charge your Siri Remote before going ahead with this guide.

1. On your Apple TV 4, open the 'Settings' app from your home screen.

2. Click and open 'Remotes and Devices.'

3. Now open 'Bluetooth.'

4. Now you're going to highlight 'Remote' at the top and press the 'Play/Pause' button four times in quick succession.

5. At this point, you're back at the 'Remotes and Devices' screen. If there's a firmware update available for your Siri Remote, it will start downloading in the background and will be installed when your Apple TV 4 is in sleep mode and not in use.

Keep in mind that the firmware download can take quite a while depending on the speed of your Internet connection. In extreme cases, the download can take up to 30 minutes, so don't panic if you think things aren't moving at all for you.

Factory Reset

While the Siri Remote updates itself in the background from time to time, but the above method is great if you want to speed things up according to your liking. Personally though, I would recommend that you let your Apple TV 4 and Siri Remote on its own and let them both do their thing when it comes to background updates. Of course, your device isn't harmed when you kick off the update process, but you should always exercise caution wherever necessary.

Also be sure to keep your Siri Remote fully charged before you're going ahead with the update process. You don't want things to shut down half way through, leaving you with a paperweight remote.

You've been warned!
