Apple TV 4 Jailbreak Delayed, What Next?

Ali Salman

The Apple TV 4 received a completely redesigned firmware last year with a dedicated tvOS App Store. The pleasant to see firmware proved to be in line with Apple's mobile OS. A few days ago, the Pangu team released a jailbreak for iOS 9.1 and announced that the release of an Apple TV 4 jailbreak was imminent. Previously, we heard that the Pangu team would release an Apple TV 4 jailbreak in a few days. However, the team tweeted on Saturday morning that they will require a few more days to release the Apple TV jailbreak.

Apple TV 4 Jailbreak Requires A Few More Days

Clearly the few more days mentioned by the Pangu team are required for testing purposes. Moreover, the tweet also declared that they will release an IPA file which users would first have to sign before they're able to put it on their Apple TV. These are all the details that the Pangu team have recently mentioned in their tweet.

The Pangu team has previously mentioned that the upcoming jailbreak for the Apple TV 4 will only run on tvOS 9.0 to 9.0.1. So if your Apple TV rests on this tvOS version, only then you will be able to jailbreak Apple's set-top box. Since it is yet not possible to upgrade or downgrade system software to a specific version or even restore it to a desired version, you will be incapable of jailbreaking your Apple TV.

However, if you must have a jailbroken Apple TV , you can always go to your nearest Apple Store and purchase one, which was manufactured before December 2015. Before you buy, be sure to check the serial number and other details so as to know that the Apple TV you're about to purchase runs tvOS 9.0 to 9.0.1.

However, the Pangu team did mention that the jailbreak might not be as interesting as iOS jailbreak yet. Since this will be a new jailbreak, end users might not benefit from it that much because it would be geared towards security researchers and developers. So as fancy as the Apple TV 4 jailbreak sounds, it might prove to be quite useless for the end users.

Regardless of the fact that the Apple TV 4 jailbreak would have limited utility to users, once its here and running with all its might, it could open endless possibilities to make use of the jailbreak tweaks. This is it for now, folks. When do you think the Pangu team could potentially release a jailbreak for the Apple TV 4? Share your thoughts in the comments.
