RUMOR: Alleged NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070 Cooler Shroud Pictured – Revised NVTTM For Pascal

Hassan Mujtaba

The alleged pictures of NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070 have just appeared on the web. The pictures which show the cooler shrouds of two upcoming Pascal based cards shows that NVIDIA might be using a revised version of the NVTTM cooler on their upcoming graphics cards.

However, since there's no confirmation by NVIDIA on either the cooler or the naming scheme of the upcoming Pascal cards, we have to take this information with a pinch of salt.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070 Cooler Shroud Allegedly Leaked - First Appearance of Pascal Graphics Cards?

The NVIDIA Pascal GPU will make its first appearance at GTC 2016. We have previously seen prototypes of the chip at GTC 2014 / 2015 and the most recent Drive PX 2 module demo unit which was showcased at CES 2016. Next week at GTC 2016, NVIDIA plans to fully introduce their Pascal GPU architecture which has went over two years in the making and will finally get introduced in various platforms this year.

NVIDIA's Pascal GPU will be aimed at various markets. Since the last two conferences, NVIDIA has talked a lot about how they plan to enhance Pascal for the HPC market. Aside from servers and workstations, Pascal will also power servers, workstations, automobiles, artificial intelligence, mobile computing and last but not least, gaming PCs.

When it comes to Gaming PCs, NVIDIA has an established ecosystem built for PC gamers which is regarded as NVIDIA GeForce. The GeForce brand is meant only for the gamers who plan to run their games in the next-gen experiences such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Realty, 4K Resolutions and faster performance per watt. Pascal will be designed to fulfill these gaming demands and as such, we will see introduction of a new GeForce lineup.

The leaked images which we have today are of two graphics cards. The GeForce GTX 1080 and the GeForce GTX 1070. Now first thing first, these images aren't modified but the two shrouds are actually real. The entire cooler shroud is made of a metal, we aren't really sure about that but NVIDIA uses Magnesium Alloy and Aluminum on their current reference NVTTM coolers. The other thing is that both shrouds feature a new design scheme that looks like an updated version of the current NVTTM cooler. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 logos etched on the front are perfectly aligned with NVIDIA's official font. So simply said, these pictures look very real and there's no reason to believe these aren't.

However, like I said earlier, we really can't give our 100 percent on this leak. There are several things I would like to point out such as the CNC unit behind with which one can easily make a cooler shroud like the one pictured above. There's also the fact that while we have been hearing the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 naming scheme for a while, it's highly likely that NVIDIA could use a different naming scheme when the product is officially launched. The naming scheme has also been doing the rounds since a few rumors hit the internet however there's a good reason to believe that those specifications are not true at all.

Regardless, these leaked images do look like a superb job. If these do turn out to be true, then kudos to the leaker. If not, then NVIDIA should take note and updated their Pascal cooling design to feature a new NVTTM cooler since the current one has really lost its touch as it has been in use since the GeForce 700 series (2013). People are really excited about the upcoming launch of FinFET based GPUs and we see that they want to know more about upcoming graphics cards. NVIDIA's Graphics Technology Conference 2016 is just a week away and we'll make sure to cover every bit. Let us know down in the comments/poll what you think of the images.
