Future iPhones might shift from LCD to OLED displays thanks to the immediate benefits that are reaped from incorporating such displays, but according to the latest string of rumors, upcoming iteration of Apple’s flagship phones are going to feature a different kind of material from its entire makeup.
KGI Securities Analyst Believes That Future iPhones Will Sport An ‘All Glass Display’
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhones dropping in the year 2017 will not only be incorporated with OLED displays, but with something that the analyst likes to refer to as an ‘all glass display’. So what exactly is an ‘all glass display’? Well, first off, we believe that the material that makes up this glass is going to be extremely resilient to drops from a certain height, suggesting that it is going to be shatter-resistant. With Apple continuously applying LCD panels on its iPhones, it is high-time that there was going to be some form of change separating current and future generation iPhones.
Unfortunately, we are under the impression that the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will not feature such a display, but there are rumors hinting to a ‘bezel-less’ display, which will make both handsets far more appealing than their previous generation counterparts. Moreover, the upcoming products are expected to be incorporated with EMI shielding technology. According to industry sources, the tech giant is intending on applying the technology to the following components:
- Radio frequency (RF)
- Connectivity chips (wireless LAN, Bluetooth)
- AP (application processor) and other modems
Another expected change coming to future iPhones is that Apple could increase the on-board storage count to 256GB. We expect that 256GB will be nice little upgrade for those who have capped their 128GB internal memory (for a premium price obviously). Another thing that we should be looking out for is the increase in overall battery capacity.
If our math is correct, then iPhone 6s sports a 6.61WHr battery, and according to our previous reports, iPhone 7 will be incorporated with a 7.05WHr cell, which brings us to the grand conclusion that both smartphones have the following capacities rated in ‘mAh’.
- iPhone 6s: 1,715mAh
- iPhone 7: 1,826mAh
This suggests that future iPhones might not just sport an OLED display, but larger battery capacities, making them far more efficient than their predecessors.
