NVIDIA’s GTX 1060 offers desktop owners the sweet spot of gaming at higher resolutions while only slashing $249 from their savings. However, gamers who are looking to see the same GPU incorporated inside gaming notebooks will naturally feel that to compensate for rising temperatures, some notable sacrifices will have to be made while prepping the mobile version of the GPU. On this occasion, the tables have turned because according to the latest specification leak, the mobile version and desktop variant of GTX 1060 have a very small difference amongst them, which you will out shortly.
The Only Difference Between The Mobile And Desktop Version Of GTX 1060 Lies In The Clock Speeds, As You Will See Shortly
Owning to the superior Pascal architecture, it appears that NVIDIA will not have to make too much efforts in sizing up a vast number of differences between both variants of GTX 1060. In fact, according to Polish website Purepc, along with the image leak that we were able to stumble upon thanks to them, the website has listed the only difference between the two GPUs:
“The only difference between the GeForce GTX 1060, for laptops and desktop version, will be reduced core speed. 1405 MHz instead of 1506 MHz in the basic mode, and 1671 MHz instead of 1709 MHz GPU Boost 3.0.”

- GPU boost clock: 1671MHz

- GPU clock: 1506MHz
- GPU boost clock: 1709MHz
This is quite an impressive feat, assuming the leak turns out to be true. While this would suggest that manufacturers should not remove their focus on improving the heat dissipation solution of their future gaming laptops, it clearly shows that a superior architecture has allowed NVIDIA to place in the same GPUs with a very minute difference surrounding them. Perhaps the successor of Pascal (at this time, is named Volta) will eliminate this tiny gap once and for all, but that will be a story for another time. As for the performance of the mobile version of the GPU, Purepc also managed to show us a screenshot of a gaming laptop armed with an i7-6700K and the mobile version of GTX 1060 coupled with 16GB of RAM and ran a 3DMark Firestrike benchmark.
The notebook was able to obtain a score of 10295 points, which is highly impressive for that configuration. If you decide to compare both versions of GTX 1060, you too will notice that everything about them has remained constant, apart from the clock speed factor.
