24 hours from now, we'll get to see the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It's been the feature of a lot of leaks so far. These point towards an alleged Iris scanner and similar performance and camera specifications to the Galaxy S7 lineup. The Snapdragon 821 just might make it on the device too. The 821 should prove to be sufficient for devices this year. For 2017, flagship processors will make the jump to 10nm, according to sources.
Samsung's Next Exynos Will Be Dubbed Internally as 'Kanchen' And Feature On Galaxy S8
For processors, 2016 has been somewhat of a slow year. As customary, both the Exynos 8890 and the Snapdragon 820 came with their share of performance claim. For Qualcomm, it was about Kryo and overall integration through HSA principles. For Samsung, it was the Mongoose M1 which served as the 'big' cluster.
When it came to benchmark scores however, the Exynos clearly dominated over its counterpart. Qualcomm had faced problems in the past and while the 820 still under-performed. To that effect, we saw the Snapdragon 821 launched earlier this month. The new processor from the company is expected to be 10% faster than its predecessor.
The final bit in the puzzle for 2016 now is Apple's upcoming iPhone 7. Even as 10nm has shifted to 2017, some interesting rumors such as InFO have surfaced for it. Recently however, it's the Snapdragon 830 which has surfaced on the rumor mill. Qualcomm's next generation will deliver on 10nm and potentially feature redesigned Kryo cores.
Following trends, the Exynos 8895 finally surfaced in a leak two days back. We haven't seen any key performance specifications surface so far. Samsung does look to be testing the processor, with boards featuring the chip surfacing on Zauba. Now, sources from China have added some more information in the mix.
According to them, the Exynos 8895 does exist and is being dubbed 'Kanchen' internally at Samsung. This follows the Exynos 8890, which ran with the name 'Jungfrau'. Furthermore, it is also expected to power next year's Galaxy S8. While we've seen plenty of alleged information for the iPhone 8, details on Samsung's next flagship smartphone have remained scarce.
The little details which have surfaced suggest strong display upgrades. Both 2.5K RGB and 4K AMOLED have been rumored for the device so far, combined with 6GB of RAM.
