A more powerful version of Microsoft’s eighth generation Xbox One console exists, and it is coming out next year with full support for “true 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality,” the platform holder confirmed during its E3 2016 press conference. Aside from this, we know little about the upcoming system, codenamed Project Scorpio. Video game and software developers, however, have started to make themselves familiar with the upcoming console’s capabilities by starting to work with it on “hardware, platform and games.”

Microsoft says Xbox Scorpio will be “the most powerful console ever made” when it comes out in Holiday season next year. We can’t really tell because of course, there’s not much information about the console yet. The platform holder did reveal that their latest and greatest will come with 6 teraflops of computing power, a 8 core CPU, and more than 320GB of memory bandwidth. While consumers wait to see the Xbox Scorpio be unveiled in all its glory, developers have already started to work on the system.
That is according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who was answering to one curious fan on Twitter. Of course, there is nothing much surprising about it, there’s only about a year left for developers to prepare content that will go with the console’s launch. Spencer’s reply, however, doesn’t clarify whether he is talking about Microsoft’s own first-party developers, or third-party studios, or both. Either way, 4K games seems to be on their way.

Xbox Scorpio, as iterated several times, will coexist with Microsoft’s standard Xbox One console. The new console is mainly focused towards providing an augmented living room entertainment experience to consumers. The upcoming console will receive no exclusive games. Games, however, will obviously perform much better on it. Phil Spencer has previously stated that you shouldn’t buy Xbox Scorpio if you don’t have a 4K TV. Read more about it here.
