If you happen to be in possession of Apple iPhone 4 or the company’s MacBook Air 2010 lineup, then we are warning you beforehand that the tech giant is going to be placing both of these products and others in its obsolete list during this month. One reason I can think of why Apple would be progressing to put its previous generation in the obsolete list is because it is gearing up to release its next generation family of notebooks.
iPhone 4, MacBook Air 2010 Will No Longer Be Eligible for Hardware Service
To update you on the matter, Apple will be adding the following models to its obsolete list:
- All iPhone 4 models
- Late 2010 13-inch MacBook Air
- Third-generation AirPort Extreme
- Mid-2009 AirPort Time Capsule
So what does this mean for the aforementioned products? In a nutshell, the products which have been listed will no longer be eligible for hardware service. Speaking from a quality standpoint, you should pat yourself on the back if you have managed to run an old product like this for so long. Looking at the announcement of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it was only a matter of time before Apple decided to remove one of its mobile devices off the shelf. In addition, it is possible that if the previous generation products are being moved to the obsolete list then there are better products that could be refreshed in the foreseeable future.
For example, it’s been a long time since Apple introduced a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro refresh for that matter, so it is highly possible that we should anticipate newer products down the line. According to sources close to the matter, Apple will be placing its older products in the obsolete list starting from October 31, meaning that they will not receive software updates after that as well. While macOS Sierra remains compatible with the 2010 MacBook Air, iOS 7.1.2 is the last software update that can be run on an iPhone 4.
