Samsung's errors on the Galaxy Note 7 have cost it heavily. The Korean tech giant has been caught with its pants down on the flagship. What was dubbed as the best phablet in the market, has become a public safety hazard. The Note 7 began to emit smoke and explode worldwide, resulting in a hasty recall by Samsung. The resulting panic caused several sources to speculate drastic measures for the lineup. A lot of folks believe that the Note lineup might be abandoned completely by Samsung. Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 Catastrophe Has Set Back Galaxy S8 Launch By Two Weeks Claim Sources
The Note 7 explosions are surrounded by controversy. Samsung's haphazard response to the situation has complicated matters for the manufacturer and for market watchers. Initial investigations by the Korean tech giant suggested that malfunctioning batteries were the core reasons behind the device's failure. Replacements equipped with power packs from Chinese ATL failed to do the trick as well. Users still reported problems, with one device starting to hiss smoke on an airplane.
Aviation authorities worldwide banned the Galaxy Note 7 subsequently. The company also lost billions in revenue due to recalls. Its reputation didn't fare that well either. Polls suggested that a lot of users were considering to permanently abandon the Korean tech giant. Now, it looks like Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 8. The company has announced a smartphone upgrade program for its Korean customers.
The program is an extension of Samsung's upgrade program. To avail upgrades next year, users will have to opt for either the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge, paying half the price. This will qualify them for an upgrade to the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy Note 8 next year. While we're sure that Samsung didn't intentionally mention the Note 8, you never know. Market reputation is all companies crave these days after all. The lineup has helped stabilize revenues in post summer months and provide an effective counter to Apple's iPhone lineup.
Right now, we're eager to see what the Galaxy S8 features. Rumors also claim a total of four camera sensors for Samsung's upcoming flagship. It'll feature a dual rear camera, an iris scanner and a front camera. Two screen variants, with different resolutions and increased edged radians will provide a lot of changes from last year's launches. Samsung should also give stronger attention to Iris scanning and corresponding software enhancements. All we're hoping though is that the device remains free of major malfunctions.
