AMD plans southbridge chipset with integrated USB 3.0 controller

USB 3.0 offers massive speed jumps over USB 2.0, sadly its not getting much attention by Intel although many companies including Asus and MSI are providing USB 3.0 on their high end boards. AMD on the other hand is planning a new south bridge chipset codenamed Hudson D1.

The Hudson D1 south bridge chipset will have an integrated USB 3.0 controller and is expected to launch in late 2010 along with AMD's Ontario Fusion 40nm APUs. With USB 3.0 being integrated into AMD motherboards, USB 3.0 should finally become more popular and easily accessible to the general audience and hopefully Intel will also be forced to join in on the action in order to stay competitive.
