[Update] Deep Silver issued a statement via the Metro - The Game Facebook page, denying that a new Metro game will be out next year.

You may have noticed some sites have reported that a new Metro game would be released in 2017. Deep Silver has released the following statement...

As the exclusive rights holder to videogames set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series.

But just to manage our fans' expectations - releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them.

When we have more news to share, we will.

Thank you for your patience.

[Original Story] Mankind takes the fight to the surface. According to the Metro 2035 novel website, a story timeline inadvertently revealed a 2017 release window for another game that takes place directly after the events of the book.

This may be the other project that developer 4AGames has been working on aside from the awesome looking VR game Artika. 4A has not formally announced a new Metro title and even a quick search on their company website shows no mention of it, but they have hinted its development in previous interviews.

The tense and atmospheric first-person person shooter franchise re-released Metro 2033 and Last Light in Deep Silver's Metro Redux bundle two years ago with updated visuals.

The Metro games are based off a series of Russian novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky. After World War III, Russian citizens have taken refuge inside their underground subway system. This keeps them safe from the radiation on the surface after being bombed to hell and back. Those who lived underground use bullets as currency and also have to fend off occasional mutated monster-thing that's trying to eat you.

The updated timeline shows that the game will take place right after the events of Metro 2035. The series protagonist, Artyom, is still doing everything he can to get his people back to the surface. The Ranger just had finished dealing with the Dark One threat and seems like it follows the 'good' ending in Last Light.

We'll keep you updated on any and all developments regarding the next game, but in the meantime if you're a fan of the lore you can read the first chapter of Metro 2035 , the last book in the trilogy. It comes out in paperback format on December 10th for $19.99 on Amazon worldwide.
