The Xbox Preview Program Changes Name to Xbox Insider Program, Opens Up to all Gamers

The Xbox Preview Program is now officially the Xbox Insider Program. Taking a cue from Windows 10, Microsoft changed the name of the service that allowed select gamers to preview upcoming Xbox One features.

However, there's more: the Xbox Insider Program is about to open up to all Xbox gamers, though currently Xbox system updates will be limited to those who are already testers (it may be a while before they'll allow new members to test those).

  • A new name – the Xbox Insider Hub
  • Personalized to give you more relevant announcements, quests, and Insider content opportunities to get early access to select games and apps
  • A new UI, inspired by the New Xbox One Experience, makes it easier to find the right info and provide more robust feedback
  • The Xbox Insider profile card where your contributions in the program come front and center
  • Support for multiple users on a console to participate and provide feedback

Microsoft believes that this will translate into a lot more fans being able to directly provide feedback from their Xbox one consoles. In case you're still confused on what exactly will change going from Xbox Preview to Xbox Insider Program, here's an excerpt from the official FAQ.

The Xbox Insider Program is the evolution of the former Xbox Preview Program. Unlike the earlier program, which focused primarily on previewing system updates, the Xbox Insider Program is your destination for previewing not only system updates but also games, apps, and other new experiences.

The Xbox Insider Program versus the Xbox Preview Program

  • The Xbox Insider Program has previews for games, apps, new experiences, and system updates. The Xbox Preview Program focused primarily on system updates.
  • The Xbox Preview Dashboard has been updated to the new Xbox Insider Hub app. It features a whole new design to make it easier to find content you’re interested in, but retains the familiar announcements, quests, surveys, and quick polls.
  • Xbox Insiders become eligible for previews based on their interests, previous activities in the program, tenure as an Xbox Insider, Xbox Insider XP, and other factors.
  • It's now possible to opt in and out of multiple previews, including the Xbox One Update Preview, from the Xbox Insider Hub.
  • The Xbox One Preview Program is now referred to as the Xbox One Update Preview. This appears as its own preview in the Xbox Insider Hub and remains focused on previewing system updates. You can manage your console enrollment there.
