While earlier reports claimed that Samsung could be working on an Exynos 8895 SoC, it appears that the company has its sights set on the more powerful Exynos 9 series of chipsets and the benefits it comes with being incorporated into the upcoming Galaxy S8 series of smartphones.

Previous reports have stated that Samsung’s Exynos 8895 will improve image processing by 70 percent and will also be able to reach a high clock speed of 3.0GHz. This is due to the fact that it will be developed on the 10nm FinFET, and with Samsung announcing mass production of its 10nm FinFET technology, it will not be long till we are experiencing higher levels of performance and efficiency. While higher efficiency and performance are elements that everyone expects from a newer chipset, there are other additions and changes that one does not expect.
Well, according to the latest report, Samsung plans to develop a powerful Exynos chipset that will include something called the Shannon 359 modem. Keep in mind that the company has been incorporating the use of Shannon modems in its smartphones for a long time, but their lack of advancements calls for a shadow of a doubt to be formed. So how is Shannon 359 expected to be any different from its predecessors? For starters, the report claims that it will provide support for just about all the network basebands in the world, which have been listed as follows:

- TD-SCDMA
- WCDMA
- CDMA2000
- CDMA
- GSM
However, the level of compatibility will be arriving during the third quarter of 2017, which suggests that Galaxy S8 might not benefit at all and will only gain the perks of higher performance and efficiency. Sources close to the matter also state that while cellular modems are embedded inside mobile chipsets, they can also act as a plug-in component; being present on the outside of the SoC. This could mean that Galaxy S8 could feature some internal design changes that will allow it to gain the support of the Shannon 359 modem.
This is definitely an exciting revelation as far as Samsung smartphones are concerned, but regardless, remember to take these reports with a grain of salt.
