Is your iPhone 6s unexpectedly shutting down during use? Apple will replace its battery for free, given you fulfill certain requirements.

Apple Acknowledges Bug Where Certain iPhone 6s Devices Were Shutting Down Even With Majority Battery Still Left

A short while back users started reporting on a rather odd issue with the iPhone 6s. Even with quite a bit of battery left on the device, the smartphone would unexpectedly shut itself down, forcing the user to power back up by plugging it to a wall outlet. Having ignored the issue for quite a while, the company has finally acknowledged it and is offering free battery replacements for the affected.

In order to get a free battery replacement from Apple, your device must be manufactured between 'September and October 2015.' Take your smartphone to Apple and they'll verify the device's serial number as well for further confirmation regarding your qualification.

Apple also says that your device will be thoroughly examined prior to the replacement to ensure eligibility. You can take your device either to an official Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider or contact Apple Technical Support to get things started. Please make sure beforehand Apple has official presence in your area before beginning your battery replacement journey. If you bought your iPhone 6s from a carrier, then please note that they are not participating in this program. You have to take your smartphone to Apple in order to get things done.

Apple suggests backing up all your data to iTunes or iCloud before going ahead. Turning off Find my iPhone is also laid down in the list of requirements. Lastly, erase your data and settings as well. You can do this by heading over to Settings > General > Reset then tap on Erase all Content and Settings.

Lastly, if you have a damaged iPhone 6s that can hinder the process of battery replacement, Apple suggests resolving that issue beforehand. There is a possibility that a cost might be incurred for unexpected repairs.

Wrap Up

It's great to see Apple acknowledging this issue and offering free repairs to those who are affected. And this isn't the first time Apple has kicked off such a program either. A few days back Apple launched a program for iPhone 6 Plus users who were complaining of failing displays, otherwise known as 'Touch Disease.'

If you have an affected iPhone 6s or iPhone 6 Plus at hand, then please make sure you utilize this program in order to get things right again.
