The 2017 iPad lineup is going to be an extensive one, as Apple has been reported to launch three brand new models. However, in addition to those three slates, another one is going to be added to that portfolio, most likely to secure the different market segments of iOS-running tablets with different sized screens. Here are more details on the 10.5-inch iPad, according to sources close to the matter.

Taiwanese Supply Chain Makers Have Confirmed the 10.5-Inch Tablet, Along With the Intended Hardware It Will Be Running

So far, it has been reported that Apple is going to be launching the following iPad models with different screen sizes:

  • 7.9-inch iPad mini
  • 9.7-inch iPad
  • 12.9-inch iPad Pro

As stated above, the 10.5-inch iPad will also be added to the lineup, but it is currently unconfirmed regarding its official name. However, we have a hunch that this model is also going to be called the iPad Pro, primarily because the 12.9-inch iPad Pro landing in 2017 will share the same Apple A10X SoC. One of the core reasons why Apple could be launching a tablet with a varied screen is because portability, performance, and battery life play in pivotal role in effectively replacing your notebook. Though these tablets are still running iOS which will limit the user’s task completion capabilities, the 12.9-inch slate is far too large and too expensive to entertain a healthy purchase.

The smaller screen real estate of the 10.5-inch tablet could have a smaller price tag while exhibiting the same level of performance as the larger slate thus making a much better purchase for the consumer. In addition, the money saved could be invested in acquiring the keyboard accessory to speed up the work process. According to sources close to the matter, shipments of the 10.5-inch iPad will reach two million units in the first quarter of 2016, and by the end of the year, it may reach 5-6 million units.

Unfortunately, none of the iPad models incoming in 2017 will feature an OLED display. Reports claim that the 2018 lineup will most likely come with this upgrade. Irrespective, we are certain that the A10X’s 10nm FinFET architecture will provide several benefits when it comes to performance and battery life.
