Google has started to roll out Android 7.1.1 for Pixel and Nexus devices. Today's release also brings December's security patch to Android devices, fixing some critical security bugs. Following is the security bulletin and links to directly download Android 7.1.1 factory images and OTA files.

Android 7.1.1 brings December security patch

December's security patch fixes some critical security vulnerabilities that could enable arbitrary code execution. However, Google has confirmed that there are no reports of active exploitation of these vulnerabilities in the wild. The update fixes a total of 40 vulnerabilities ranging from severe to moderate.

The most severe of these issues are Critical security vulnerabilities in device-specific code that could enable arbitrary code execution within the context of the kernel, leading to the possibility of a local permanent device compromise, which may require reflashing the operating system to repair the device.

We have had no reports of active customer exploitation or abuse of these newly reported issues.

After testing Android 7.1.1 developer preview, Google is now releasing Android 7.1.1 for its Nexus and Pixel users. Interestingly, the update doesn't bring Android 7.1.1 to the Nexus 6, which receives the December security patch but is based on the Android 7.0.

Today's update brings some Pixel-exclusive features to Google's Nexus and Android One devices, along with its Pixel C, including App Shortcuts, live wallpapers, and more. The new Pixel lineup also gets some new Moves, bug fixes, and other improvements with today's release.
