Apple is working with Hollywood to bring brand new movies to iTunes as rentals just two weeks after release.

You Will Soon Be Able to Watch in-Cinema Movies on iTunes, But With a Steep Price

We all know how long it takes for movies to hit Blu-ray, DVD or online rentals. But Apple is working to change all of that. Instead of you going to the cinema in order to watch a brand new movie, Apple wants to expedite the process and bring it to our living room way before anyone else. In fact, if this new report by Bloomberg is anything to go by, we could see brand new movies for rent on iTunes just two weeks after they go live in cinemas.

Bringing movies to iTunes this early will help boost the service's credentials by a huge margin. It's worth noting here that the movie space is extremely crowded as is, but everyone offers more or less of the same thing. Bringing early movie rentals to iTunes would be an extremely huge boost for Apple's online movie service.

21st Century Fox Inc., Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros. and Comcast Corp.’s Universal Pictures all confirmed over the past week that they are looking to offer high-priced, home-video rentals of new movies shortly after they open in theaters. Some studio executives have been pushing to allow home rentals as early as two weeks after theatrical debuts and are considering a deal with iTunes as one option, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

While this does sound to good to be true, the obvious downside of such a feature would be price. We could see a premium here, with prices ranging from $25 to $50 per rental. A little steep, but you end up getting to see a brand new flick straight in your living room.

Furthermore, the question of piracy also arises. But those are concerns which eventually will be sorted out further down the line using various techniques to track down where the source originally comes from.

This report is exciting, nonetheless. For an average movie-goer, it can end up saving a lot of time and money in several different ways. But of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Apple's plan will eventually go through and what price points we will end up seeing once everything is finalized.

We will keep readers updated regarding this news.
