A report from WSJ sheds some light on why the Apple AirPods have been delayed. The issue appears to be technical.

AirPods Are Being Delayed Due to an Issue with How the Earphones Handle Bluetooth

Apple's newfound Bluetooth earbuds have been subject to a lot of criticism and delays lately, with the latter testing out the patience of a lot of potential buyers around the globe. The reasons given for the delay have been somewhat mixed so far, but a new report from WSJ sheds some light on an issue which remains undiscussed until now. Apparently, the issue rests in how the AirPods handle a Bluetooth connection once paired with a device. Or rather, 'connections.'

A person familiar with the development of the AirPod said the trouble appears to stem from Apple’s effort to chart a new path for wireless headphones. In most other wireless headphones, only one earpiece receives a signal from the phone via wireless Bluetooth technology; it then transmits the signal to the other earpiece.

Furthermore, Apple is working on what will happen if the user happens to lose an earpiece or if one of them dies.

Apple has said AirPod earpieces each receive independent signals from an iPhone, Mac or other Apple device. But Apple must ensure that both earpieces receive audio at the same time to avoid distortion, the person familiar with their development said. That person said Apple also must resolve what happens when a user loses one of the earpieces or the battery dies.

Wrap Up

Originally slated to launch in October and announced alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the AirPods have seen enough delays to make anyone believe the new accessory won't be with us until at least January. But of course, given how important the product is to Apple, there is a possibility we might end up seeing them with us way sooner. A perfect gift in time for the Christmas maybe? It's pure speculation, nothing else.

If we have more updates regarding the AirPods, we will let our readers know about it. Until then, you might want to refrain yourself from visiting Apple's website over and over again for hopes the product might have become available all of a sudden. Whenever it does go live, the entire Web will be abuzz regarding its launch, including us.

In the meantime, stick to your regular earphones that get the job done. Apple's magical product can definitely wait.
