No More Windows Insider Builds Until 2017 as Dona Sarkar Pushes the Pause Button

Okay Insiders, this is some bad news. Dona Sarkar has said Microsoft won't be releasing any new Windows Insider builds this year. Saying "this year" sounds a little dramatic as we have just half a month left to say hello to 2017. The company said the current options aren't good enough, and leaving Insiders during Christmas with possible issues and errors is not a good thing to do, of course.

No more Windows Insider builds this year

The Redmond software maker is calling it a wrap for Windows 10 Insider builds for the Fast ring this year. Windows Insider chief Dona Sarkar, similar to her predecessor, announces some important news on Twitter. She tweeted to confirm that we won't be seeing any new builds as the year comes to a close.

Don't be disappointed though as the company recently released Windows 10 Insider build 14986 which brought a number of new feature improvements and enhancements. Build 14986 offered improvements to Cortana with new abilities to control PC functions (shut down, restart, music player controls, etc) via voice commands, among other features (more details here). The company also rolled out the same build to Slow ring earlier this week.

While there will be no new builds, Microsoft will release ISOs for Windows 10 14986 next week, Sarkar added.

2016 has been an exciting year for Windows 10 development as the company released a new build almost every week to the Fast ring. Heading into 2017, expect even more builds since the public release of Windows 10 Creators Update is almost here (slated for March). Until then, have fun with 14986.
