As most of you know, Apple’s iPhone 8 is being labeled as the ‘Anniversary Edition’ of when the company announced its first ever iPhone. This naturally means that the tech giant is going to be planning something special for the occasion and according to the latest report, the innards and exterior of the device are said to be unlike we’ve ever seen before.

Multiple Reports Claim That All iPhone 8 Models Are Going to Pack a Curved Panel Coupled With a New Touch-Sensitive Technology

Several sources have stated that instead of incorporating a flat-screen panel, Apple is going to be taking advantage of the high-end curved OLED screen. This report falls in line with an earlier rumored partnership that had taken place between Apple and LG Display. LG Display was gravitating towards curved OLED panels, and it is said that the top tech giants, including Google were going to be the manufacturer’s clients for future devices.

In addition, it is also reported that Apple intends to use a curved display similar to the one present on the Galaxy S7 edge, and with the display tech used in the Android flagship, it is said that the iPhone 8 display could be on par with Samsung’s display tech for smartphones. One report familiar with Korean media has stated the following:

“The OLED version of the new iPhone will all be curved as Apple ordered all plastic OLED -- not glass -- from Samsung Display. Samsung is capable of supplying a little less than 100 million units of curved OLED displays to Apple. The upcoming iPhone may use new sensing technology, which enables the phone to respond when users touch any side of the device. But, Apple may not adopt this technology.”

At the same time, Lee Chang-hee, a professor researching OLED technologies at Seoul National University states the following regarding Samsung’s decision to release a foldable display:

“If Samsung rolls out foldable phones next year, it would have to sell it at a big loss -- even selling just a small volume. A profit-making company is unlikely to make such a decision.”

When they say that the iPhone 8 is going to be a completely new device, they weren’t kidding at all. Regardless, we’ll continue to update you on the matter, and yes, we are excited to see what the new device is going to look like.
