Only five days are left until 2016 is over. As the year ends, we're starting to hear some disappointing news from the processing end. While initially the year appeared to end on a high note, now reports of poor yields for both TSMC and Samsung have started to surface. Given that the pair account for all of next year's flagship processors, we hope that any problems are resolved soon. Today, some details for Huawei's Kirin 970 have surfaced. Huawei's Kirin 970 Will Feature Eight Cores With Clock Speeds Of 3GHz
Talking specifications, we've seen a lot of details surface for 2017's processors. Courtesy of 10nm, processors will undergo major jumps in performance and power efficiency. Both the Exynos 8890 and the Snapdragon 835 have seen frequency details surface which cross 3Ghz.While you'd expect such performance from the two leading processors in the market, we've got a third contender for you today.
As highlighted in our detailed benchmark breakdown, Qualcomm isn't what it used to be. The US tech giant's Kryo cores haven't delivered up to a level of what was expected. Subsequently, it was the Kirin 960 which performed better than you'd expect it to. Now, Huawei* is looking to extend its lead to 2017 as well, according to today's specifications rumor.
Supply chain sources claim that the processor will feature a total of eight cores. These will be divided in subsets of four each, comprised of ARM's Cortex A53 and the Cortex A73. These will be clocked at 2.8GHz and 3.0GHz respectively. It will also feature Cat. 12 baseband and will be manufactured on the 10nm process. To be fair, this information doesn't add anything new to what we already know about the processor. Still, it's good to see earlier rumors being corroborated today.
With less than a week left until 2016 ends, the next year's already starting to look very promising. We've got the Samsung Galaxy S8, the iPhone 8, a new set of processors and more upgrades all set to take the stage.
