Untethered iOS 9.3.5 Jailbreak

If you're a jailbreak fan, you must be aware that when Apple stops signing a firmware, it is no longer possible to downgrade or upgrade to a specific iOS firmware. Moreover, if you're following all the jailbreak news recently, iOS hacker 'tihmstar' announced that he will be releasing a tool by the name of Prometheus, which will allow users to downgrade the iOS firmware. The tool has been released and can be downloaded. However, Apple has patched the Prometheus tool hack. So let's find out what impact does it have on users who wish to downgrade their iOS firmware in an attempt to possess a jailbroken status.

Prometheus Tool Hack Patched By Apple, Downgrading No Longer Possible?

Prometheus is a tool required to downgrade or upgrade to a specific iOS firmware even when Apple stops signing it. If you think you have the expertise and experience in the field, you should know that the process is fairly complex. It requires saved .shsh2 blobs and if you don't have access to them, downgrade is almost impossible to achieve.

If you're interested, the video below demonstrates the complete downgrading process.

Even though the Prometheus tool was available, several users on Reddit are reporting that Apple has patched the hack. So what change does the patch bring when using the Prometheus tool to downgrade? Well, when using the Prometheus tool, an error message will be displayed citing that Apple's TSS  server is down and the firmware cannot be signed. Moreover, Apple's TSS page is also displaying a "Server not ready" message. What this means is that Apple could be making the required changes to block any attempts to downgrade to iOS firmware using the Prometheus tool.

In addition to this, non-jailbroken users are still able to update their devices. This means that the company's TSS servers are not actually down but blocking the downgrade attempts from Tihmstar's tool. Apple is very responsive when it comes to patching hacks that bypass their platform. Seemingly, any loopholes in the iOS firmware are also patched eventually.

As for Tihmstar, he has yet not responded to the patch, but we're looking forward to an official statement from the hacker. So be sure to stay tuned for that. As for now, have you downgraded to iOS 10.1.1 using the Prometheus tool? Has the patch blocked you from downgrading? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
