Humanity has been driven from the Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to take back the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on... A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth of the world.

More Nier Automata gameplay footage has been made available last week, showcasing more of the game's engaging combat system as well as exploration. The game's death mechanics have also been revealed.

Living, Dying, Living Again

You are an android. So when you die, what happens? Your memory and data are uploaded into a new body and redeployed into the fray. If you return to where you died previously, you will encounter your former body. At this point players can do one of two things:

Retrieve the body for a bonus, or…
Attempt to repair the body.

If players attempt to repair, they could be successful and reactivate the body to help in battle. Players can also be unsuccessful, as the body may have become corrupt, causing it to become hostile. If players defeat their former selves, they gain an enhanced bonus.

Nier Automata launches next month on PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe. The Steam release has yet to be dated.
