There’s no question that Xiaomi aims to reduce the level of dependency on Qualcomm and MediaTek with the announcement of two Pinecone chipsets, but that does not mean the company will stop using third party high-end hardware completely. According to the latest statement, it looks like the Chinese manufacturer has managed to secure itself a decent shipment of Snapdragon 835 chipsets for use in the company’s upcoming high-end smartphone, Mi6.

Xiaomi Mi6 Processor Frequency Said to Be Running at Full Speeds, According to Analyst

One would be assuming that the Mi6 would just come with the more powerful Pinecone chipset named V790. This SoC has been said to be manufactured on Samsung’s 10nm FinFET technology, but there’s still one little problem. The chip is said to be available during the end of this year, meaning we can rule out that the upcoming Mi6 is going to running Xiaomi’s high-end self-developed chipset. Instead, according to Kevin Wang of IHS, the manufacturer has managed to secure a large number of Snapdragon 835 units so that the announcement of Mi6 is not going to be disrupted or delayed in any way.

As a reminder, it was reported that Samsung seized the initial shipment of Snapdragon 835 chips from Qualcomm, leaving other manufacturers such as LG to fend for the Snapdragon 821 so we do not have any information right now how exactly Xiaomi managed to get its hands on Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset. We are also certain that the company isn’t going to be relying on MediaTek and its Helio X30, so a cheaper Mi6 is definitely out of the question for now.

Xiaomi is not going to be attending the MWC 2017 trade, but it is yet to be confirmed if the company made this decision it because it didn’t prepare its Mi6 due to lack of Snapdragon 835 shipments or because it has its hands full with the Pinecone SoC announcements. Looks like we will be updating you guys when the announcement of the Mi6 officially kicks off.
