Google took a huge gamble by pricing its Pixel and Pixel XL at the same level as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and though it paid off in the long run, it looks like a new rumor claims that the tech giant might make a decision that might not bode well for the customer. Removing the headphone jack is the current rumor surrounding the Google Pixel 2.
Despite Removal of Headphone Jack, Pixel 2 Has Been Rumored to Come With Several Upgrades
Whenever a rumor drops by detailing that a flagship is going to drop the headphone jack, it is not given a very welcoming reaction and why would it? According to 9to5Google, an internal Google document claims that the upcoming Pixel 2 will get rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack but will add more upgrades to the flagship in the process. One of the things missing from the original Pixel was lack of water-resistance. Sure, it was IP53 certified, but that would hardly help the customer.
Since the rumor claims that water-resistance is going to be a part of the Pixel 2, we are under the assumption that the smartphone will be IP68-certified. This will help to bridge the gap between the likes of Samsung’s flagships and the iPhone 8, which has also been rumored to come with the same level of water-resistance. In addition, the camera sensor is expected to receive a hefty upgrade. The original Pixel was void of hardware stabilization but did feature software stabilization.
However, the ‘shake’ compensation is never as effective using software stabilization as it is when you have OIS in a smartphone, so that is one of the upgrades that we can hope for. The rumor claims that while the megapixel count will be small, there are going to be key features added to the camera. This could indicate that the Pixel 2 could feature a 12MP rear camera, since increasing the number of megapixels on a small sensor is going to be pointless.
Most importantly, take this rumor with a pinch of salt for now and we’ll continue to update you in the coming weeks.
