Pokemon GO for both iOS and Android has been updated to version 1.29.1 and 0.59.1, respectively. Here's everything that is new.
Drop By a PokeStop to Initiate a First Streak and Be Gifted with a Random Evolution Item
In order to entice players back into the game, Niantic introduced streaks whenever someone catches their first Pokemon of the day or stops by at a PokeStop for the first time in 24 hours. It's a wonderful little addition to the game, and something that went down well with players around the globe. However, the company behind Pokemon GO feels that they should take things up a notch, and they did. How exactly? Be rewarding players with a random evolution item whenever they drop by a PokeStop and manage to hit a streak.

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.59.1 for Android and 1.29.1 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.
-The 7-day ‘First PokéStop of the Day’ streak will now award a random Evolution item.
-Minor text fixes.
Of course, apart from the above mentioned feature, there are minor text fixes along with bugs that have been patched. Users can expect a slight improvement in performance as well since that is something that comes part with almost every software update.
