Using Apple’s virtual assistant Siri, a 4-year-old managed to save his mother’s life by using the program to call up emergency services immediately.
After Summoning Siri, the Program Directed a Call to Emergency Services Where 4-Year-Old Roman Dictated His Home Address for Immediate Action
The call recording (given below) comprises of an individual speaking to Roman. The call took place through Siri and Roman explained to the person at the other end that his mother was unconscious and not breathing. Afterward, the 4-year-old stated his address so that emergency services could arrive in due time and perform life-saving procedures.
Chief Superintendent Ade Adelekan of the Met's Command and Control Unit stated the following about this incident, reminding us how the development of improved technology can help people who are placed in compromising situations.
“Hearing this call brings home the importance of teaching your young child their home address and how to call police or emergency services in an emergency situation. It could really be the difference between life and death. It’s an amazing story and thanks to his quick thinking and by asking 'Siri' for help, this little boy saved his mum's life and it means she is still here and can be extremely proud of him and his brothers.
To remind you, even if an iPhone is locked using a fingerprint scanner or lock code, it is still possible for you to contact emergency services without unlocking it. In addition, Siri is also able to make out statements such as ‘Dial 911’ to make the same call. With prank calls directed to this number widespread as well as the probability to make a call erroneously, there is a 5-second time window for you to cancel the call.
