DJI just took things to another level by launching an intelligent easy to use mini-drone called Spark, incorporating the company’s latest technology in autonomous flight mode, that can be controlled by hand-gestures alone unlike conventional drones that require remote controls. The company has put in a lot of investment and hard work in developing this drone.
Spark has inherited the autonomous flight modes and sensing technology features from some of its previous versions. It is extremely easy to fly this drone. Spark inherits the intelligent flight modes from professional drones like TapFly and ActiveTrack. Its specialty is that it incorporates a 3D sensing system that detects objects in front. Moreover, it tracks and senses an object you choose by keeping it in the centre of the frame. Though DJI Sprak can be easily controlled by hand gestures, for extra control optional accessory of a dedicated remote or a mobile device is also available.
As soon as the drone leaves the hand of the user it enters Gesture Mode. This mode allows users to send the drone into the air and shoot a video using pre-defined flight paths like circling, following or filming from straight up. Though DJI Spark can be easily controlled by hand gestures, for extra control, optional accessory of a dedicated remote or a mobile device is also available.
Spark Camera and Lightweight body
The extremely small and lightweight DJI Spark is only 300 g in weight which is beneficial for news shooters and film makers as in many countries it will be considered a toy and doesn’t need a licence to operate.The drawback of Spark is that the camera has a resolution of 1080p which may discourage professionals from buying it.
So many colors
As with DJI Mavic, DJI Spark is targeted at gadget loving consumers. Thus the drone will be available in various colours like Alpine White, Sky Blue, Meadow Green, Sunrise Yellow and Lava Red. The benefit of an optional remote is that you can change the speed of the drone up to three times. The Spark will also be compatible with DJI Goggles to allow first-person view (FPV) flying. It has a Quickshot mode where a 10 second video can be instantly made and shared. Unlike the DJI Malvic with a flight time of 27 minutes, the flight time for Spark is 16 minutes only.
Spark Safety, Accuracy, and Precision
When it comes to safety concerns, DJI Spark has it all covered. It uses a main camera, a downward-facing vision system, a forward-facing 3D sensing system, dual-band GPS and a GLONASS for navigation. In addition to that it can sense obstacles from up to 5 meters away and can hover accurately with its vision system at up to 30 meters. To warn about areas with security concerns, Spark uses DJI’s GEO System and NFZ geo fencing. From a distance of up to 2 km away , a 720p live video can also be streamed.

The Spark is available for pre-order. It comes with a battery, USB charger and three pairs of propellers, and costs $499. The DJI Spark Fly More Combo has two batteries, four pairs of propellers, the remote controller, propeller guards, a charging hub and shoulder bag, and and costs $699. The company starts shipping in mid-June.
