ASUS ZenBook Pro UX550 announced

Getting a spec bump compared to last year’s model, the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX550 represents the best of the best from the notebooks department that not only looks great and exudes a lot of portability but also comes packing the latest hardware. Featuring a 15.6-inch 4K touchscreen panel, the ZenBook Pro UX550 definitely has a lot of things going for it.

Being just 18.9mm Thick and 1.8kg Heavy, the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX550 Is One of the Most Portable and Powerful Machines in Its Class

The ZenBook Pro UX550 will be available to purchase later in the year in two processor models:

  • Core i7-7700HQ (2.8GHz to 3.8GHz; 8 threads, 6MB cache)
  • Core i5-7300HQ (2.5GHz to 3.5GHz; 4 threads, 6MB cache)

There is another discreet, but very important change added to the notebook; the addition of another Type-C USB port that provides support for Thunderbolt 3. The laptop's own 4K panel has the same 72-percent NTSC color gamut plus a 178-degree viewing angle.

However, it has a slimmer 7.3mm bezel and no numeric keypad. Another downside to purchasing the notebook is that there is no full-sized SD card reader present in the notebook; it is replaced by a microSD card slot. Content creators and professionals are definitely not going to be liking this change since their cameras will use SD cards.

However, there are several perks to owning the beautifully designed machine. ASUS claims that its latest ZenBook Pro UX550 will be able to deliver between 12-14 hours of battery life and also supports fast-charging; can charge from 0-60 percent in just 49 minutes. Additionally, it can be configured up to 16GB of DDR4-2400MHz memory coupled with up to 1TB PCIe SSD storage.

There are Harman-certified speakers and there’s also a GTX 1050Ti running underneath the hood. Pair this with the quad-core Kaby Lake processor and you have a decent mobile machine that delivers a ton of horsepower for your everyday computing requirements.

The price tag will obviously be an expensive dilemma for the end user because ASUS claims that its ZenBook Pro UX550 will either be shipping with the Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home OS and will be retailing for $1,299 when it sets foot in stores this July.

Is this a more pleasant upgrade from a hardware and portability perspective? Tell us your thoughts down in the comments.
