The cost of materials for a smartphone will naturally from its display and attaching a QHD panel to a mobile device will add more to that entire bill. For OnePlus, it would not have become a feasible option had the company decided to use a high-end resolution display on the upcoming OnePlus 5 and from the looks of things, this approach has worked out well in the company’s favor.
Now, according to the latest teaser from the company’s CEO Pete Lau, it looks like the upcoming flagship is going to stick to a 1080p panel, which might anger potential customers, but you also have to look at this from a business perspective.

On Weibo, Pete Lau has shared an image of what appears to be the home screen of a smartphone. While the CEO does not detail the resolution of this image, if you decide to measure the pixels of this image yourself, it will turn out to sport a resolution of 1920 x 1080. While this is not a bad thing since OnePlus is attempting to cut costs to make its OnePlus 5 as affordable as it possibly can for the public, don’t you think it is high time that we see a commanding shift to QHD resolutions from such manufacturers.
On the subject of cost cutting, we are also contemplating the sort of materials the flagship phone will be made of. Several rumors have pointed out that the device will have a metal and glass pairing, which is actually a blessing since this will mean that the handset can potentially provide support for wireless charging.
However, other leaks have pointed out that a generic ‘all-metal’ design is going to be used once more, but at least we will get to see the dual-camera upgrade on the flagship. Of course, how can a 2017 smartphone be complete without the inclusion of a Snapdragon 835, so this is exactly the kind of hardware we should expect on the handset.
