Looks like HMD Global is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that Nokia comes across as a reliable brand, just like old times. The company is working hard to keep its promises for timely software updates. In a rather impressive move, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are getting August security patches today. It's worth noting that Google released these patches yesterday, and Nokia has made them available for its two Android phone today. The update is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is 120.2MB in size. It is currently rolling out to the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.

This is not the first time when HMD Global has followed the schedule like no other Android OEM out there. Last month, the company released the update before Google. This time, Google released the update a few hours ahead of Nokia. We are quite happy to see that manufacturers are now taking security patches seriously and trying to make them available as soon as possible. There are just three competitors in the race though; BlackBerry is the third one.

Nokia 3 To Get Android O

Nokia's affordable Nokia 3 smartphone is yet to get the latest security patch update, but it did receive July security patch sometime back. HMD Global is also working to bring Android 7.1.1 on Nokia 3 soon, which means that the phone will also be getting August security patch soon.

Further, the company has confirmed that Nokia 3 will also be treated to the major Android 8.0 update. HMD Global has promised that it will be offering software updates to its devices for at least a year and a half after their date of launch. Nokia 3 is the cheapest Android smartphone in the range, but it will also be getting treated to Android O. Meanwhile, many reports are suggesting that the upcoming Nokia 8 smartphone could come running Android 8.0 out-of-the-box.

HMD Global is aware of how users are concerned about software updates, and amidst various OEMs who fail to offer timely updates, Nokia could emerge as a reliable contender that fulfils its promises. By providing updates in the same timeline as Google, Nokia is surely setting up its brand name at the right place. For Android fans who want timely software upgrades, Nokia seems like a safe bet.
