According to Guerrilla Games’ managing director, Hermen Hulst, it’s too early to make announcements about the future of the Killzone franchise.

The developer’s new IP, Horizon Zero Dawn, has been highly successful, but for Guerrilla Games it all started with the Killzone series. Many fans have been wondering whether the Dutch developer will release a new game in the franchise, and while Guerrilla still loves the IP, no announcements will be made about its future at this point.

Hulst said as much in a recent interview as published by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Science as part of this year’s upcoming D.I.C.E. Europe event.

“I get asked that question a lot through Twitter and other social media channels”, Hulst replied when asked whether fans should be worried about Guerrilla’s focus following the success of Horizon Zero Dawn.

Guerrilla's managing director pointed out that the team shares the passion for Killzone with a lot of fans. “It's really heartwarming to hear that there's such a strong appetite from the loyal Killzone fanbase", he said. "It's a franchise and universe that we still love with a passion at Guerrilla. It hasn't been easy doing something so completely different. Whether or not we've put a permanent period behind the series, it's too early to make announcements on that. All I can say is that we've always loved the Killzone universe and the Killzone series, and we still do. We share that passion for the game with a lot of our fans.”

The first Killzone was released on Sony’s PlayStation 2 back in 2004. It’s sequel, Killzone 2, was released on the PS3 in 2009, while Killzone 3 debuted two years later. Guerrilla kicked off Development on Horizon Zero Dawn afterwards.

The latest Killzone installment, Killzone Shadow Fall, was released for the PS4 in November 2013 and has been praised for its visuals and multiplayer mode.
