Consumer Reports earlier reverted its impressions of Apple’s 2016 MacBook Pro but the survey has been unable to provide a recommendation for Microsoft’s Surface lineup. According to the details provided, Consumer Reports states that it is difficult to give a recommendation to this product due to the number of reliability complaints received from it.
Wide Range of Problems Exhibited From Various Surface Products Prevents Consumer Reports From Providing a Recommendation - 25 Percent of Surface Product Owners Have Detailed Issues After Just One Year of Use
Consumer Reports reveals that approximately 25 percent of Surface product users had problems that started to appear after just a single year of use.
“To judge reliability, Consumer Reports surveys its subscribers about the products they own and use. New studies conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center estimate that 25 percent of Microsoft laptops and tablets will present their owners with problems by the end of the second year of ownership.”
To sum up the issues being experienced, they have been detailed in the list below:
- Battery problems with Surface Pro 3
- Reliability issues with the Surface Pro 4
- Battery and reliability issues with the Surface Book
- Surface Pro hibernation issues
- Backlight bleed with the Surface Pro
In addition, the choice to omit a Thunderbolt 3 from the Surface Pro would be regarded as a terrible move from Microsoft because apart from the spec bump, there was nothing different being marketed about the 2-in-1. Regarding the recommendation, Microsoft does not agree with Consumer Reports, stating that consumers provided different and positive experiences after purchasing the product.
“Microsoft’s real-world return and support rates for past models differ significantly from Consumer Reports’ breakage predictability. We don’t believe these findings accurately reflect Surface owners’ true experiences or capture the performance and reliability improvements made with every Surface generation.”
My own personal preference stands with purchasing Surface product only if you need the extra battery life and portability factor. If you need more firepower, you’re better off purchasing a regular notebook.
