Using a repetitive phone design might not have been the best of decisions for Apple when it comes to the iPhone 7, but turns out the smartphone has ended up being the most popular handset around the world. According to the latest statistics, even Samsung’s offerings are not able to scale past this model, so we can all imagine how these statistics will fare once the iPhone 8 is up for grabs.

Market Research Firm Claims That Even the iPhone 7 Plus’ Exclusive Features Were Not Enough to Claw Its Way Back to the Top

According to Juha Winter, who is Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, she might have intended to say that the design was possibly the least-viable selling point of the phone. The optimized UI coupled with powerful hardware and superior optics were sufficient to make the handset popular.

“iPhone 7 remains the world's most popular smartphone model overall, due to a compelling blend of user-friendly design, extensive supporting apps, and widespread retail presence for the device.”

The surprising thing is that despite the iPhone 7 Plus’ larger screen real estate, bigger battery capacity and dual-camera upgrade, the 5.5-inch phone managed 15.1 million shipments for the June quarter, whereas the iPhone 7 managed to accumulate a total of 16.9 million units.

The Galaxy S8 came in at third place with 10.2 million units, followed by the Galaxy S8+, with 9 million units. If you notice the trend here, the popularity of the smaller smartphone is much higher and we can wonder that perhaps it is the smaller price tag that made it a more enticing solution for consumers.

If a non-compelling design was not the strongest trait of the iPhone 7, we strongly believe it will be a huge selling point of the iPhone 8, which is going to be unveiled next month. The smartphone will have competition to tackle such as the Galaxy Note 8, Huawei Mate 10, LG V30 and of course the Pixel 2 lineup.
