Samsung is Apple’s primary manufacturer and supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone 8 and will retain its position as the chief purveyor of this vital component for 2018 as well. One of the questions that have revolved around the iPhone 8 is not the display tech it will use. We already know for a fact that this iPhone will be the first to feature an OLED display but is it going to be outfitted underneath curved glass or an edge-to-edge glass? One rumor seems to think that it will be the latter.

Despite Numerous Rumors, One Source Claims That the iPhone 8 Will Continue to Sport an Edge-to-Edge Glass - Next Year’s iPhone Might Get a Curved Display

A source close to the matter told The Korea Herald the following regarding Apple’s decision to transition to OLED panels for the iPhone 8.

“Apple is highly unlikely to follow the same design of its rival’s. Instead of the edge-to-edge display, it will have a flat screen with bezel-less on the top and bottom alongside the two sides.”

In short, the iPhone 8 featuring an edge-to-edge glass will mean that while the flagship will sport minimalistic bezels, they will not be curved, which is the complete opposite of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. OLED technology has several properties that IPS LCD panels do not possess, which is why Apple has decided to make the change.

For starters, OLED panels are noticeably brighter than IPS LCD displays, as well as making colors appear more vibrant. In addition, it will also allow Apple to reduce the overall thickness of the iPhone 8, meaning that the headphone jack is going to be missing from the equation once more.

However, there are numerous features to be looking forward to from the next-gen iPhone, ranging from the ability to record 4K footage at 60 frames per second, as well as unlock the home screen while the device is sitting flat on a desk.
