4A Games, the Ukrainian developer now based in Malta, positively surprised their numerous fans when they announced Metro Exodus at long last during E3 2017.

The game appeared on stage during Microsoft's press briefing and was immediately confirmed to be among those Xbox One X enhanced titles. The gameplay demo looked fantastic, which didn't surprise those who have been following 4A Games - Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light are still among the most visually stunning first-person shooters on PC.

However, the question on everyone's mind was whether that gameplay footage was running on an Xbox One X. It was later confirmed by 4A Games in an interview conducted during E3 2017 that the gameplay footage of Metro Exodus was captured on a PC representative of the Xbox One X in terms of specifications.

Speaking with the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) UK in the October 2017 issue (#155), 4A Games Executive Producer Jonathan Bloch praised the hardware of Microsoft's upcoming console (due on November 7th) and explained how that footage was crafted by the developers.

The power of the Xbox One X will allow to ensure the game looks amazing. The trailer was recorded in-engine from a gameplay sequence players will find later on in the game. We removed things like HUD, and Quick Time Events prompts, choreographed the playthrough and music to fit the needs of the trailer, but the game looks like what you see.

To know whether Microsoft's Xbox One X will indeed be able to deliver such visual splendor, we'll have to wait next year as that's when Metro Exodus is scheduled to be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This third installment is set to introduce much larger playable areas as well as "massive replayability" with players' decisions "having significant consequences for the story", according to 4A Games.
