Galaxy Note 8 and Xperia XZ1 Now Support Netflix HDR Streaming

There are just a handful of devices that support Netflix's HDR streaming, and adding to that list today are Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 and Sony's Xperia XZ1 smartphones. For those who tend to watch Netflix on their mobile phones and want to have the HDR experience, these two devices could be your new choice.

Folks at Android Police spotted the two new entries on Netflix's FAQ page along with previously included smartphones - the LG V30 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The LG G6 is also in the list of supported devices, but it is the only one with support for Netflix HDR and Dolby Vision.

The Galaxy Note 8 and Sony Xperia XZ1 constitute the major smartphone launches in the past two weeks. With their superior high-end displays, it would be a treat for Netflix users to watch HDR content on it. The Xperia XZ1 comes with a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels display while the Galaxy Note 8 features a massive AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. Although the Galaxy Note 8 will provide better picture quality, the Xperia XZ1 will make up for it in the sound department as it boasts dual front-facing speakers.

Pre-requisites for streaming HDR content on supported devices

Netflix HDR presents life-like picture quality for many flicks and shows. The service first became available on the LG G6, in May 2017. Since then, it has made its way to other HDR-supporting smartphones. If you have any of the smartphones mentioned above, then you can start streaming HDR content on Netflix. You just need to check if you are on the latest version of the app and phone's latest firmware.

Another requisite is that you must be on the 4 Screen premium Netflix subscription to get HDR content on the app. Also, HDR requires a stable internet connection so make sure that you have a speedy and reliant internet connection to stream HDR content on your phone's Triluminos or Infinity Display.
