Star Wars Battlefront II is less than two months away as of today, and the beta is even closer. One of the main question marks among fans has been whether the game would support Virtual Reality devices - as you might recall, Criterion developed the free PlayStation VR exclusive mission titled Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission, taking place during the events of the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Released in December 2016, it received substantial praise from critics and players alike.

While there had been no VR mode mentioned during the reveal, a PlayStation newsletter tagged the game as VR compatible as you can see below. Sony later said that the newsletter was incorrect, but also added that "nothing had been announced regarding VR support for Star Wars Battlefront II".

Well, we finally have an official statement from Criterion's general manager Matt Webster during an interview published by Metro GameCentral. Pilots interested in using their Virtual Reality devices to better play out the Star Wars fantasy might be disappointed, but then again he added that the experience made while developing Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission helped improve the new Starfighter Assault mode featured in Star Wars Battlefront II.

There is no VR.

At some point we could sit down and spend a good number of hours talking about where VR needs to get to in order to work with that, because in something like this you’re doing the job of a fighter pilot. And in the real world that has a significant physiological effect on you, which would dramatically limit the audience.

But making the VR demo absolutely informed the work we’re doing now. So there’s a lot of the VR mission’s soul in Starfighter Assault.

The game will be out on November 17th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our previous report regarding leaked beta content.
