Both the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 have created new smartphone photography barriers and with improved software features included in iOS 11, the larger of the two iPhones will prove to be a formidable adversary for the rest of its rivals. One senior photographer managed to get his hands on an iPhone 8 Plus and went on an image shooting spree. Needless to say that he was extremely impressed with the results and to be honest, we are too.

Senior Photographer Boasts iPhone 8 Plus’ Exposure Capabilities - States That Even His DSLR Is Not Able to Achieve This

Senior photographer James Martin from CNET embarked on a 72-hour journey to see what the iPhone 8 Plus was truly capable of and this is his opinion of the 5.5-inch phablet.

“I boated on San Francisco Bay, fished on Ocean Beach, biked around Angel Island and walked through Chinatown with the soon-to-be-released iPhone 8 Plus in hand. More than 2,000 photos later, I feel like I have a good sense of what this new camera can do. I'm definitely impressed.”

Martin was also impressed with the Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting features, saying that thanks to these additions in the iPhone 8 Plus, images are given more depth. You can also adjust the camera depth to your liking, which is something that is not present in the iPhone 7 Plus, which happens to be Apple’s first ever dual-camera smartphone that was announced last year.

Martin also compares the 5.5-inch phablet to this DSLR and what he says might put you in shock when referring to the exposure capabilities of the smartphone.

“Even my high-end DSLR can't achieve this kind of exposure, balancing lights and darks. Apple is using high dynamic range techniques in the background to expose everything properly -- producing the same image my eye sees.

With the new sensor, HDR delivered better details in highlights and shadows. HDR is always on, signaling Apple's deeper commitment to computational photography with the iPhone 8 Plus. That's different than the iPhone 7 Plus, which gave you the option to set HDR to auto, off or on.”
